Pink - The story of a shinning star

Alecia Beth Moore, commonly known as Pink was born in September 8th 1979 in Pennsylvania, USA and since then has had a crazy life and a successful carreer as singer and songwriter.

Pink, who has got this nickname because when she was a child she used to blush when got embarrassed, had a difficult childhood because her parents – a vietnam veteran and a nurse – got divorced when she was just seven and she couldn’t deal with that. Beside it, she was introduced to music very early because of a asthma which obligated her to breath in a different way (with her abdomen instead of her chest) and singing was a good way to practice this technique.

When Pink became a teenager she got through hard times. She didn’t want to go to school anymore, she had problems with drugs and she also didn’t have a good relationship with her parents – or better saying – she didn’t have any. But when she was in her limit, music saved her, as she says herself.

Pink started singing in a rap group called “Choice” and a few months later had a contract with LaFace Records, as a solo singer. So, in 2000, she released her first album: “Can’t Take Me Home”, which sold 4 million copies and gave her more evidence in the music world. After that, wishing to be seen not as just another silly pop singer, she started to write her own songs. And in this way she released in 2001 her second album: “M!ssundaztood” which sold more than 12 million copies all over the world! At this time, Pink became one of the biggest celebrities in the USA and started dating Carey Hart, a motocross racer. Everything was going allright in Pink’s life, but after doing a worldwide tour she took some time to rest.

At this point she had developed herself not only as a singer, but as a person. She stopped smoking, made up with her parents and started supporting PETA and Greenpeace. With all these good vibes, a new album was released in 2003: “Try This” that sold over 3.5 million copies. Her sound was more rock and roll and, despite the selling fall, she made a very nice tour over the USA, Europe and Australia. The only bad news were about her personal life: she had broken up with Carey (eventhough they got together again very soon later...).

After a break to write songs for her fourth album, Pink reappered in 2006 with “I’m Not Dead”. "I woke up one day and thought: 'I only live once, let's make the best out of it”, she said about the choice of the album’s name. It has sold 4.3 million albums until now and she’s doing an Europe tour right now – that’s a really pit that she is not coming to Brazil!

In January 7th 2006 Pink finally got married to Carey in a very cute ceremony at a beach in Costa Rica. She said they haven’t got much time to spend together until now because of their professions but she is really happy about being a wife.
Pink is known to have a polemic behaviour. One year ago, she sent a letter to Prince William, criticizing the Royal Family's guards' use of bearskin for their headwear. In November 2006 Pink mentioned in the “News of the World” that she is disgusted with singer Beyoncé for wearing animal fur. As anyone can see, Pink is very involved in the environmental cause.

Alecia Moore or just Pink will keep on rocking the world. By her music, by her causes ou simply by her beautiful way of being.
Here’s the lyrics from Pink’s “Dear Mr. President” song:
Dear Mr. President
Come take a walk with me
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me
I'd like to ask you some questions
if we can speak honestly
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep
What do you feel when you look in the mirror
Are you proud?
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why Dear Mr. President
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind
We're not dumb and we're not blind
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pay the road to hell
What kind of father would take his own daughter'srights away
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter
if she were gayI can only imagine
what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh How do you sleep at night
How do you walk with your head held high
Dear Mr. President
You'd never take a walk with me
Would you
