CACASO - the poet

If I have an idol, it is Cacaso. Cacaso was a poet who was born in 1944. He wrote his first poems in 1962, but his first book is from 1967, which is “A Palavra Cerzida” (The Mended Word). His last book is “Mar de Mineiro” (Miner Sea), which is from 1982. Cacaso died in 1987.

Cacaso’s real name is Antonio Carlos de Brito, and he started to use the nickname to write only in his last book.

This guy is my idol because he is a kind of inspiration to write and to live. His poems are very different from the common: he uses the pontuation in a different way, and talks about strange things to say in a poem: he talk about normal situations or extraordinary situations, working with opposites. For example, read this translated poem:

"LIVING WITH"

the talk goes enthusiastic the friends
think highly of themselves they
recognize themselves the human hot in the room overflow

slowly
everybody thinks how it will be in a little time
each one’s funerals

I’ve used this poem as an example to show Cacaso’s style of writing. This poem is from his last book, which is my favorite. His first book is very different. The poems are much more lyric, and Cacaso still hasn’t his identity: his poems in that book are very close to the common way to write poetry, with a lot of lyric influence. And to read lyric poems, I prefer Vinicius de Moraes.
