Chico Buarque de Hollanda
Francisco Buarque de Hollanda, one of the most popular Brazilian singer son of Sérgio Buarque de Hollanda e Maria Amélia was born in Rio de Janeiro and when he was two years old he moved to São Paulo. When he was fifteen years old he listened to a song called “Chega de saudade” composed by João Gilberto, which influenced him very much. He started the architecture course but gave it up to became a composer. He took part in a music festival in 1964 and won the festival in1966 with the song “A Banda”. He was exiled in 1969 and stayed in Italy for 2 years. Back to Brazil he composed songs like “Vai Trabalhar Vagabundo”, “Cabalar” and others. He’s still one of the greatest artists in Brazil.
