Elis Regina

Elis Regina Carvalho Costa was born in March 17th, 1945. She was from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.

She was a very good singer and besides her beauty Elis had an incredible and fabulous voice that was always noticed and appreciated by everyone who heard her songs.
It was Elis Regina who helped some Brazilian composers like João Bosco, Aldir Blanc, Renato Teixeira and Fátima Guedes.

The singer was called by “pimentinha” because of her personality. She always wanted the best of her voice and the best of everyone that worked with her.

But all this success didn’t come easy. When the talented woman left her city and went to Rio de Janeiro she didn’t become famous. Her fame came when Elis decided to come to São Paulo.
And when she was 20, she won the 1st Brazilian Popular Music Festival.
In 1982 at the age of 36, Elis Regina had a heart attack caused by drinks and she died.
It was a terrible piece information for all Brazilians, who had lost a brilliant person, a fantastic singer and a tradition of Brazilian Popular Music.

Before she died, she had a beautiful daughter named Maria Rita. The little girl grew up and today she is following her mother’s path. And one thing we know is that talent in this family is genetic.
