Luis Fernando Veríssimo

Luis Fernando Veríssimo was born in September 26, 1936, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. He’s son of the great writer Érico Veríssimo. He studied at the Porto Alegre Institute, having also studied in the United States when his father went to teach in a university in California . When he was 16 he started the Roosevelt High School in Washington, where he studied music.

Veríssimo is married and has three children. He’s a journalist and started his career as a copydesk in the “Zero Hora” newspaper in Porto Alegre around 1966, but he worked in several sessions ever since. He also earned a living as a translator in Rio de Janeiro. In 1969, he got his own column in the paper replacing the Jockyman column. In 1970, Veríssimo went to work in “ Folha da Manhã”, but went back to his old job five years later. The success of his column assured the launch of his first book: “A grande mulher nua”, a junction of his texts.

Having already written more than forty titles, most of his book are chronicles with similar subjects, but he has also written four novels. Veríssimo is a very known writer in Brazil, with a sensational sense of humor which has been entertaining us and contributing to the national literature.
