Jamie Cullum

He’s a very good singer of pop-jazz, songwriter, and pianist. He’s from England, was born in 1979, and is 26 years. He’s a handsome man, of average height, and brown hair. He’s very important to me, because he plays beautiful music. What I like best about Jemie is the way he sings, he’s very crazy! He started early his career, and his inspiration is in Miles Daves and Hearbie Hancock. His first record “Heard it all before” was made when he was nineteen. In 2002, he released the record “Pointless Nostalgic". His last record was Catching Tales, released in 2005. My favorite songs are “Everlasting love” and “These are the days”.

Discography:
1999 - Heard it All Before
2002 - Pointless Nostalgic
2004 - Twentysomething
2005 - Catching Tales

One of my favorite idols

All my life I have admired many kinds of people with their different ways of life.
One of my idols is Ronaldinho Gaúcho, a very happy person and a very nice player, in my opinion. So I like him very much.
My idol plays football, and he is a great soccer player and many people think that he is the best soccer player in the world. I think this is really true, because he plays in international teams that are the greatest ones, for example: Barcelona. He is from Brazil and I also like him because he was born in Brazil, and this is my country too.

He has long black curly hair, he also has dark skin and he is tall (I think 1,81m), he is thin and has brown eyes. And he always has a big smile in his oval face. I don´t know very well, but I think that he is 27 years old, so he is still young.
Ronaldinho is happy and very funny, and is always in a good mood, I think that Gaúcho is a friendly and good person with a good heart.

What I like the most about my idol is that he can control a ball very well.
My idol is important to me, because I want to have the same character and all characteristics that Ronaldinho has, so that I can be a good man in my life just like my idol.

My mom likes to read, calm music and to be in contact with knew things. She is average height, she has short hair and her hair is black. She isn’t fat and isn’t thin she is middle weight.
One of the reasons why she turned to be my idol is that she works a lot and helps anyone, and she is important to me because she is my mother and when is close I’m happy.

CHICO XAVIER

Francisco Cândido Xavier was born on April, 2nd, 1910, in Pedro Leopoldo, Minas Gerais. His parents were simple people. His mother died when he was 5 years old. His father (father of 9 children) gave him to his godmother to raise him.

As a child, he learned to feel calm and patient when he suffered aggressions from his godmother. Whenever this happened he went to his house’s backyard where he met his mother after praying.
After some time, Chico couldn’t see his mother frequently, but started to dream and wake up at night to speak with invisible people and in the morning he told stories about dead people.
His father thought that his son was being disturbed by the devil and took him to a priest. Sad for not being understood, Chico talked to his mother and she advised him to stay silent. During 7 years (1920 – 1927) he didn’t see his mother and followed the catholic religion.

He kept dreaming. In 1927, his sister became sick and a couple of sipiritists made the first spiritist session in his house; in this session his mother manifested and asked her son to study two books: “O Evangelho Segundo o Espiritismo” and “O Livro dos Espíritos”.
His psychography of spiritualistic medium manifested at school, where Chico wrote truly literary texts.
In May, 1927, the first spiritist session took place at Xavier’s home, in Pedro Leopoldo. At the end of this year, was open the sipirist center Luiz Gonzaga.

On July 8th, 1927, Chico Xavier made his first spiritist service in public. His first psychography book was published in 1931.
In 1950, Chico had received more than 50 psychography books and then he became famous in Brazil and in the world.
On January 5th, 1959, he moved to Uberaba, beginning the public work at “Comunhão Espítira Cristã”.
His work has always consisted in doctrine divulging and in assistance activities, together with evangelical service and comfort people that came looking for him.
He wrote 400 books using psychography and the money from these books was given to beneficent entities.

Chico always lived only with the money necessary to live; he was a simple man and didn’t accumulate money.

He continued working despite his ill-health.
Chico Xavier died on June 30th, 2002, in Uberaba, while Brazilian people celebrated the World Cup; a happy day for Brazilians, as he had wished.

Kinky Reggae

“ África unite, cause we are moving right out of Babylon
And we are going to our father’s land”

Robert Nesta Marley, as know as Bob Marley, was born in Jamaica, in 1948. He was the singer of a reggae band called The Wailers. He started to the music early: when he was 10 years old, he already know play the guitar. In 1966, Bob, the brothers Barret, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer got together and started to play reggae music. Later, the band started to make a success in their country, and soon they were well-known around the world.
Bob Marley, with his dread lock hair, was more that a singer. In Jamaica, his house(a mansion) was open to everybody, and there he talked with his friends the whole afternoons(about anything); after this, he played the guitar and sang some songs with the people.

He was rastafari and he followed his religion until the end of his life. With his suces, he became an Idol to all the African continent: Bob fought to all the Africans an their rights. In 1973 he stopped a civil war in Zimbabwe, summoning all the people in this country. Unfortunately, he died of a cancer in his foot in 1983.
I think that the best of Bob are the lyrics os his songs with the rime of his music. He is important to me because he was a good musician, and because of what he did to the poor and sick people, focusing on the Africans.

RBD

RBD is a group that emerged from the soap opera "Rebelde", integrated by its protagonists: Anahí, Dulce, Maite, Alfonso, Christián and Christopher; that soon went beyond the soap opera fiction to write, in the pop music world, a reality that surpassed fiction. Their album debut "Rebelde" triggered great radial hits in Mexico: "Rebelde", "Sólo Quédate En Silencio", "Sálvame" and "Un Poco De Tu Amor".

And soon became a Gold Album, then Platinum and recently got the Diamond Album Award for its more than 500,000 sales in their country. From the first tour of the band, named "Tour Generación RBD" a CD and a DVD were released (out in USA on the 8th November) in which, apart from the songs in the album "Rebelde", there are pop/rock medleys from the 80's and new songs of the group "Una Canción" and "Liso Sensual". RBD received the Platinum Album Award (Mexico) for this live album. After about a year of its launching, RBD releases its second discographic production of unedited songs: "Nuestro Amor" (October 4 in USA).

An album that shows the evolution of the band since its creation. It features 14 songs, included "Nuestro Amor", the first single and the name of the album, and "Me Voy", "Feliz Cumpleaños", "Este Corazón", "Así Soy Yo", "Aún Hay Algo", "A Tu Lado", "Fuera", "Qué Fue Del Amor", "Qué Hay Detrás", "Tras De Mí", "Solo Para Tí", "Una Canción", and "Liso, Sensual". Surprisingly, after a sale of 127 thousand units, "Nuestro Amor" gets the Platinum Album Award after only 7 hours of its release in Mexico. In November 24 (in the world), RBD releases its other discographic production of unedited song: “Celestial”. It features 13 songs in “Celestial”, included “Celestial”, the the name of the álbum, and “Tal ves después”, “Ser o parecer”, “Dáme”, “Quizá”, “Bésame sin miedo”, “Tu dulce voz”, “Algún dia”, “Me canse”, “Aburrida y sola”, “Es por amor”, “ Quisiera ser” and “English snnipet”. RBD, a group that comes from a soap opera fiction to break down stovepipes in the musical world. Without doubt, the pop band most successful of the time and which will surely continue at the front line. RBD’s “Ser o Parecer” Reaches the #1 Hot Latin Track. Mexico's RBD makes bilingual bid for U.S. audience.

MIAMI (Billboard) - For at least the past two years, EMI executives on both sides of the Atlantic were on the lookout for a successful Latin act with international potential. Enter RBD, a coed sextet whose initial success in its native Mexico hinged on the popularity of a daily soap opera. Since releasing a first album in late 2004, RBD mania spread from Mexico to the U.S. Latin market to the rest of Latin America and Brazil, where the group topped sales charts with albums in Spanish and Portuguese.

Now RBD plans to release two new studio albums: the Spanish-language "Celestial," due November 24 on EMI Televisa, and "Rebels," in English, due December 19 on Virgin. This marks the first time a major act is releasing completely different Spanish and English albums (usually one is a translation of the other) in the United States within such a short period of time. The setup is the prelude for the European release of "Rebels," slated for March 2007. RBD's exploits have been well documented. In just two years, the group -- made up of Anahi, Alfonso, Dulce, Maite, Christopher and Christian (all between 19 and 24 years old) -- has sold close to 6 million albums worldwide and more than 1 million in the United States alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Its new English-language single, "Tu Amor," is No. 32 on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart and No. 71 on the Billboard Hot 100. The act's new Spanish-language single, "Ser o Parecer," is No. 10 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. RBD's MySpace page has more than 1 million profile views and more than 3 million song plays. Its Web site has 2 million unique visitors per month. RBD it records the First Chapter of its series. "RBD: The Family ". After the harvested successes, the band initiates the filming of series ' RBD: the family '; the project will be launched in 2007 and will have quality of cinema.

JOTA QUEST

History

The group Jota Quest was formed in 1993, with Paulo Diniz (bassist) and Paulo Fonseca (drummer). Then Márcio Buzelin (keyboards), and Marco Túlio Lara (guitarist) joined the band. The vocalist Rogério Flausino came last, after winning na audition where 13 people were participating.

Later, the group had an idea. They wanted to commemorate “Johnny Quest”, a character of a cartoon. But the name was long and they decided to abbreviate the name to J. Quest. Then in 1998 they changed the spelling, and now the name is Jota Quest.

Curiosities:

The name of the second album of J.Quest, "De Volta ao Planeta" is a satire to the society and politics confusion from Brazil. In their opinion, maybe it is necessary “to return” to the planet of monkeys (name of the album) to organize everything without destroying the nature, without war, without hunger, inequalities, poverty and injustices .

Rogério Flausino is graduated in computer science and Paulo Diniz is graduated in civil engineering. The other musicians didn't finish the university.

At the age of 12, Rogério Flausino made his first band with his brother Wilson Sidereal and some friends. He could only play in the band, if he had good marks at school.

My Sports Idol, Rogério Ceni...

My sports idol is Rogério Ceni, he is the São Paulo Futebol Clube’s goalkeeper and , in my opinion he is the best goalkeeper in Brazil and one of the best in the world.
He is 1.88 meters tall, 85 kilos of weigh and he is 33 years old, he was born in 22nd January 1973 in the city of Pato Branco in the state of Parana.

In so many years of career he played only in two teams: S.P.F.C. (São Paulo Futebol Clube) and Sinop, in Mato Grosso state. Before he became a professional goalkeeper, he played in the midfield , but one day, his team’s goalkeeper got hurt and he had to play in that position. He did so well that he became a world champion in 2002 as member of the Brazilian national team.
Till 1996 he was the second goalkeeper of Sao Paulo’s team, when Zetti, other awesome keeper had to leave the team, so Rogerio got the position.
Since then, he has played incredible matches and won lots of titles: three “paulista” championship, one Rio-Sao Paulo tournament, one South American Cup, one “Libertadores da America” and one Interclubs World Championship.

But there is an incredible gift he’s got and that is what makes him so special and better than other goalkeepers: he is one of the best free-kickers. in the world! He scored his first goal 10 years ago and he hasn’t stopped yet. Till now, Rogerio has scored almost 70 goals! No keeper has ever done that before. He is the only keeper that scored a goal in the Interclubs World Championship and helped Sao Paulo on it’s way to win lots and lots of titles, not just making awesome saves, but also scoring many goals. And that’s why I like him so much.

Pelé’s successor

Robson de Souza was born in January25, 1984, in São Vicente, Brazil. Everybody knows he like Robinho. Hes is 5’8” tall. He is a professional footballer.

Robinho played for Santos, helping the club win two Brazilian National Championships in 2002 and 2004. He played with his best friend Diego. But in the summer of 2005, he moved to Real Madrid, which agreed to pay a fee of $30 million for him. At Madrid he plays with other Brazilians like Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Cicinho Emerson and Júlio Baptista.

I love seeing Robinho play, because he plays very well. He is very fast and agile, he has stamina and good balance.

Robinho has been compared to our great footballer Pelé by fans, who say he is Pele’s successor in the national football.

A wonderful player

He was born in May 21,1974 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Nowadays he plays in Piacenza, an Italian team, and at the Brazilian national team too. His position as a player is “oposto”. He’s considered short for his position. He is 1,90 meters tall, but he is one of the best players of the world.

He has been considered an excellent player because he has been winning a lot of championships. In the Brazilian national time he won the World championship in 2002, The Worldwide League in 2001, 2003 and 2004 and the World Cup in 2003.

He is my sport’s idol because he is an example of talon and perseverance because he has faced a lot of difficult moments in his life. But with the help of his parents and friends he has became an excellent professional.

GUSTAVO : THE MOST HUMBLE PERSON

Gustavo Kuerten, worldwide known as Guga, is a very famous tennis player. He was born in September 10th in Florianopolis. He started playing tennis when he was six. He and his parents used to go to the club to play tennis and so he started enjoying this sport by watching his parents playing.
Olga Schlosser, his grandmother, is also an important person for Guga’s career. She motivated Guga and she sponsored him when he was a kid. She has been watching his games and supporting him up to now.

Guga is encouraged by all his family. Everyone has a special function for his career. His older brother Rafael, is Guga’s agent and best friend.
He is a very good tennis player. He for three times won the championship of Roland Garros, one of the most important in the world, in 1997, 2000 and 2001. And the Grand Slam and the Masters Cup of Lisbon.
He is always involved with social programs. In 97 and 98 he specially helped the APAE, with deals with programs for the disabled. He has helped institutions around the world.
I like Guga because he is a very good person, an example for everybody. Most of the tennis players are rude, but Gustavo is very humble, friendly and generous.
He passes for everybody a message which shouldn’t be lost with the time. We should be good, help the others because doing that we are going to be rewarded in someway in life.
Guga does a lot of generous things that every one should do too. He contributed to the world making our life a little better.

We have our idols...

She is our lady “Dai”

What do you think about Daiane dos Santos?

She’s 20 years old and was born in February 10, 1983, in Porto Alegre. She has been doing gymnastics since she was eleven, and she trains every day for five or seven hours.

Her first World Competition was in 1999.At the 2001 Worlds she got the 50™ place on floor exercises. She won a lot of medals to Brazil. In 2001, Dai surprised everybody when she got these positions in the “Pan-Americano”: 4™ place in bars, 3™ place in jumping and 1™ place in solo. In the last “Mundial”, she got the 5™ place in the solo exercises. Up to now, she has achieved 110 medals and 18 trophies.
I like her because I think gymnastics is very difficult, you have to be agile and strong, and have a good balance. And she is very skilful at it. She got a lot of medals and she is very good at gymnastics, in my opinion. I think she gives good example for young people, because when she was a child, she was very poor and she had to work hard to be good and famous as she is now.

Geraldo Alckmin

Geraldo Alckmin was born in Pindamonhangaba, in São Paulo on 7th November, 1952. He is married to Maria Lúcia Alckmin and has three children: Sophia, Geraldo and Thomaz. Geraldo Alckmin was graduated in Medicine. His political career started in 1972. When he was 19 years he was the most voted councillor in his home town. For the MDB he became the youngest mayor of Pindamonhangaba.

In 1988 he was one of the founders of the “Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB)” and he became the vice-governor in Mário Covas’ govern in 1994. In 2000 he was candidate defeated in the election for São Paulo’s mayor. In January, 2001 he became our governor when Covas die, and was reelected in 2002. Now he is the candidate for the presidential election and he has good chances to be the new president of Brazil.

In spite of not being fond of politics, I believe Geraldo Alckmin is kind of an idol because he is really honest and his ideas to improve the country are really interesting. He has already done many things specially when he was the governor of São Paulo and I think Brazil will be a better place to live if Geraldo wins the election.

CAZUZA

A person who has influenced me a lot is Cazuza. He was a great and famous singer and composer who was born in Rio de Janeiro in April 4th, 1958. He started his career when he met Roberto Frejat, who was looking for a singer to his new band, Barão Vermelho. Cazuza died in 1990 in Boston. He was and still is one of the best Brasilian singers. He recorded 10 albums in which most of the lyrics are his. All songs expressed what he felt and thought of the world and people.

This man was very sincere, happy, funny…What I love in Cazuza is the way he enjoyed life! He lived his life intensely, as if each day was the last. He had Aids, so his last months of life were very difficult. He used to go to Boston to treat his illness, and after some time, he died.

He is an example of courage, strength and life to me. I intend to live my life like him. I intend to live my life intensely.

The writer for Itabira

Carlos Drummond de Andrade is considered one of the most important writers in Brazil.
He was born in a little town called Itabira. After graduating in pharmacy he got a public job, but he started to write and continued doing it even after his only child´s death.

His texts show feelings like love, hate, friendship, stress and he has contributed a lot to Brazilian literature. There are many places like schools, shopping centres , bookshops and even universities which were named after him.

Some days when I´m tired and a bit disappointed with the world I live in his books are good companions. I think he has contributed to society and will always be by showing us the world the way he felt it.

Our Idols are...

The “Mamonas Assassinas” was a Brazilian pop/rock band. Mamonas Assassinas was a satirical Brazilian pop/rock band. They were a huge hit in 1995 among children, teenagers and even adults - probably due to the crude humor in their lyrics.

In only eight months of career they sold 2,8 million of copies of the only CD they launched. Their career ended tragically on 2nd March, 1996, when the plane in which they were crashed into the Cantareira mountain range, near São Paulo, instantly killing all the members of the band, as well as the plane crew. The accident shocked all fans. The story of Mamonas Assassinas will turn into a movie in the middle of 2007.

All of them were born in Guarulhos, except for Dinho, who is from Irecê in Bahia.
Dinho (Alecsander Alves) - vocals (born March 5, 1971)
Samuel Reoli (Samuel Reis de Oliveira) - bass (March 11, 1973)
Júlio Rasec (Júlio César Barbosa) – keyboards (January 4, 1968)
Sérgio Reoli (Sérgio Reis de Oliveira) -drums (September 30, 1969)
Bento Hinoto (Alberto Hinoto)- guitar (August 7, 1970)

A great part of the success of Mamonas is because Dinho, the funniest member. Bento a guy with rastafári hair style, was the responsible for the mix of music styles. Julio Rasec (keyboards) become famous because of his performance of Maria, in the song "Vira-Vira". The brothers Reoli, Samuel (bass) and Sérgio (drums), used the family name, Reis de Oliveira, like an artistic name.

The beginning

The Mamonas started without Dinho, in a band called Utopia, like covers of Legião Urbana e Rush. The vocalist joined them in the middle of a show, and since then, Utopia started to perform in the outskirts of São Paulo. The members soon understood that the lyrics with jokes were better than the covers. They decided to change the band, starting from the name. The demo tape that they had made, was taken to the artistic director of EMI-Odeon João Augusto Soares. João Augusto heard and contract the band in April 28, 1995, reinforcing the partnership that sold one million of copies in less than a year of career. After the disaster, the recorder launched a live disc.

Ivete Sangalo

Ivete Sangalo was born in Juazeiro, Bahia, in May 27 , 1972, in a family of musicians. She started to sing at school when she was a child.

Nowadays she lives in Salvador. In 1993 she was singing in a group named Banda Eva, but she has been a single singer since 1999 and in that year she wrote the song "Se eu não te amasse tanto assim" that was her most sucessful song. After that in 2001, she created the CD festa, a very happy and romantic CD.

She sings the “Cobras e Lagartos” soap opera theme "Quando a chuva passar", which is in my opinion, her best song. She sings in several Bahia carnival shows every year. Teenagers are the people that like most her job and her most famous songs: "Abalou", "Soy Loco Por Ti America", etc.

She is a very good singer and she has brought our music to many countries. Ivete is very humble, funny, happy and her lyrics are so beautiful. I admire Ivete very much because of her personality, good mood and her beauty. She is gorgeous.

Fernanda Montenegro

Descending from Portuguese and Italians, Arlette Pinheiro Esteves da Silva, after her marriage with the also actor Fernando Torres, in 1953, changed her name to Arlette Pinheiro Monteiro Torres. But, she became widely known as Fernanda Montenegro, throughout Brazil, and more recently around the world with the success attained by "Central do Brasil ".

The "magic name" Fernanda Montenegro showed up for the first time when she was working on the radio, making translations and adaptations of Iiterary works into the soap opera format. Based on inspiration, but also mainly on perspiration, Fernanda projected herself as one of the best actresses and may be appointed today, as an actress who built her career all by herself, a true self made woman. Her artistic career became divided among the theater, the television and, with greater intensity in the last years, the cinema. Her debut in the theater actually happened in 1950, in the play "AIegres Canções nas Montanhas" along with Fernando Torres. In the beginning of the 50's she participated in detective drama stories for television.

Taking advantage of that period she improved her knowledge about theater and in a short time became a respected actress performing in several plays along with her husband and actors like Sérgio Britto, Cacilda Becker, Nathalia Timberg, Cláudio Corrêa e Castro and Italo Rossi.
In the beginning of the 60's, already established in São Paulo, she acted in more than 170 plays in the program "Grande Teatro Tupi".

But it was only in 1979 that her presence became more outstanding on the screen. Fernanda became the authors' - and the public's - favorite name having acted in several productions of Rede Globo, including soap operas, special programs and short series. Her participation in films is few when compared to the performance in the theater and even in television. The most well known film performance, prior to "Central do Brasil" was in "EIes Não Usam Black Tie" (1980) in which she acted with Gianfrancesco Guarnieri and the production won the Golden Lion prize as the best film in the Venice Cinema Festival.

As a matter of fact, the theater never failed to be her priority. For her excellent expressiveness, but in spite of being extremely versatile, Fernanda considers herself a conventional actress.

A woman devoted to the stage, to the television studios and now, more than ever, to films, Fernanda Montenegro, is achieving a deserved recognition in the international scenery for her performance in "Central do Brasil", by director Walter Salles. Apparently, the "virus" of the movies seems to have conquered her once and for all.

Our Star

Ronaldinho was born in Vila Nova, a district in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He was the youngest of three children. Ronaldinho's mother Miguelina is a former salesperson who later studied to become a nurse. His father João was a shipyard worker and footballer for Cruzeiro.

The family moved to a more comfortable home in Porto Alegre when Ronaldinho's older brother Roberto signed to play professional football for Grêmio. His father died when Ronaldinho was 8, after suffering a heart attack while swimming in the family's pool. Injuries ended Roberto's career prematurely, and he now manages Ronaldinho. Ronaldinho's sister Deisi works as his press coordinator. Ronaldinho's son, named João after his father, was born on 25 February, 2005. João's mother is Janaína Nattielle Viana Mendes, a former dancer on the Brazilian television show Domingão do Faustão.

In his childhood, Ronaldinho's skill in football began to blossom due to his particular interest in futsal and beach football, which later developed into a fondness for more standardised football. His first brush with the media came after a 23 goal flurry against a local team, at just 13 years of age.

His reputation as a footballer was built up through his childhood, particularly since he was identified as a rising star in Egypt in 1997 under-17 world championship. He scored two goals in the tournament, both penalty kicks.

He is a huge fan of Brazilian music, and occasionally plays the drums and sings with friends in Barcelona.

My idol is....

Gustavo Kuerten. He was born in Brazil and he has been living in Florianopolis. He is 30 years old and he's a tennis player.

He started to play tennis when he was 5 years old. His coach is Larri Passos. And now he's the 20th in ranking of tennis. He has won many grand slans and master series like Rolland Garros, US open etc.

Gustavo Kuerten is called the king of Rolland Garros because he won three championships of this grand slan.

He's very thin and serious. He's very good at the service and he's sponsered by Nike. But now Guga is not doing very well in championships. This is happening because he had surgery on his hip and is trying to overcome this problem.

He's my idol also because he's part of many social projects as IGK (Guga Kuerten Institute). H,e helps many people mainly the children, so he's an icon of Brazilian sport.

Inspiring Rebel

Agenor de Miranda Araújo Neto was born on 4 April ,1958, in Rio de Janeiro . Known as “Cazuza”, which means “quiet and solitary”, her liked most the nickname.
Being a rebel , his slogan was: “Sex, drugs and rock’ n’ roll”. He loved Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Rolling Stones’ songs. In 1976, Lucia, his mother, discovered that Cazuza had become bisexual and addicted to drugs, so she made him work in a record studio “Som Livre”. Some years later, he made a photograph course. Even though, anything made he satisfied.

Cazuza decided to study theater but he was hopeless in spite of singing very well. In 1981 he joined a Rock group “Barão Vermelho” as the leade. In the following year, they released their first album including the main song: “Todo amor que houver nessa vida”. But the group only achieved success in 1983 with the hit: “Pro dia nascer feliz”. They sold more then 100.000 copies in 6 months. The group achieved national fame in the following year with "Bete Balanço," the title song for Lael Rodrigues' film,in which the band also appeared. It was included in their third album, Maior Abandonado (Of Age And Abandoned), with the equally popular title track.

They performed in “Rock ‘n Rio”, but unfortunately, Cazuza splited up from the group. Days later, exams were made and proved: the virus HIV had contaminated him.In spite of this, Cazuza continued singing and making shows during 3 years, when he had his carrier interrupted by the illness. In 1988, Cazuza received a grammy for “the best singer” and “ the best song”.Supported by the public, he decided to release his last album: “O tempo não pára”, which sold more then 560.000 copies.

In 1989, Cazuza traveled for the second time to Boston, trying to save his life, but unfortunately on 7 July 1990, he died. But before his death , Cazuza became the first Brazilian celebrity to announce publicly that he had AIDS. More than just a singer, he was also a rebel who showed courage to fight for what he thought was the best. The fact that he brilliantly showed his opinion in his music and kept fighting his illness inspired us ,so he turned into an idol for us.

Gisele was born in July 20 th, , 1980, in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul, a small city in the extreme of the country.

She was always a fighter. She came to São Paulo and after many negative responses and
persistence she got a “job” and then another, and now she is one of the most famous and one of the best models, becoming an example that if you are determined and fight for you want, you can get it!!

Before Gisele Bundchen started her careerl, her father would send a questionnaire to the directors of the agencies in São Paulo every year because he wanted to analyze the possibilities that his daughter had to become a top model. During six years she worked hard traveling to three different countries in the same week.

Gisele Bundchen is a Brazilian model which is very famous around the world.
She is the most wanted for commercial and parades and receives a lot for that.

With this money, she can help her family, as she wanted , and also have a good life quality

Clarice Lispector

Clarice Lispector was born in December 10, 1920, in Tchechelnik, a small village in Ukraine, the homeland of her parents, Pedro and Marietta Lispector. In 1922, she and her family moved to Brazil. Her first novel “ Perto do Coração Selvagem” [Close to the Wild Heart], was published in 1944.

Her contribution to the Portuguese language, according to Fernando Pessoa ,is as big as of Guimarães Rosa. She knew English and French well, but she wrote only in Portuguese, her native language. The compulsion to write made her feel dead when she was not writing.

Clarice wrote novels, short stories, stories for children and other texts. She used to use her childhood in the rural area in Pernambuco as subject for the texts. She was different, transgressing. She was always recreating herself, devouring herself.

Clarice represents an inimitable person in Brazilian literature. What she did, in an original way, was to create moments of illumination and revelation. She created the epiphany. Epiphany is the living sensation of the reality, which is saved by art.

Clarice died of cancer in December 9, 1977, just one day before she would be 57 years old.
Some of her books are:

Laços de família

Romário

I will talk about one of the greatest soccer players in the world. Romário de Souza Faria, better known simply as Romário, born on January 29, 1966 in Rio de Janeiro. He started his career playing for Vasco da Gama in 1985 where he won two State Championships (1987/88), and scored his first official goal on August 18 during a match against Nova Venécia team. Between 1988 and 1992 he played for PSV Eindhoven, which won the Dutch League in 1989.

Hristo Stoichkov, Jose Mari Bakero, Josep Guardiola, Michael Laudrup and Ronald Koeman, he helped the club win the League, becoming the season's top goalscorer, scoring 30 goals in 33 matches. Romário helped Brazil national team win the 1994 FIFA World Cup and was one of the most prolific strikers in the world in the 1990s.

In 1993, during Romário's successful season at Barcelona, he was called to join the national team for the America Cup. During one of the matches in Brazil, coach Carlos Alberto Parreira assigned Romário as a substitute, after which he expressed his dissatisfaction, saying he wouldn't have come over from Spain if he had known he was not going to play.

These declarations caused Parreira to ban Romário from the Brazilian team. Brazil played the first seven matches of the 1994 World Cup qualification without Romário, and suffered their first loss ever in World Cup qualifying against Bolivia. Journalists and fans claimed for his presence. Brazil had to beat Uruguay at Maracana Stadium to be the first in their group. Before the match against Uruguay, Parreira gave up and called Romário.

Brazil won 2-0, with Romário scoring both goals, and was qualified to the World Cup. At the World Cup finals, he partnered with Bebeto in the attack to lead his country to a record fourth World Cup title. He scored five goals in the tournament: one in each of the three first round matches, one against the Netherlands in quarterfinals, and the game-winning header against Sweden in the semifinals. He also assisted Bebeto in the only goal of the match against the United States in the eightfinals. He was voted the most outstanding player of the tournament.

He was named FIFA World Player of the Year in 1994, after being the runner-up in 1993. In 1995 he returned to Brazil to play for Flamengo. He spent the next year in Valencia. In 1998, he missed out the World Cup and then returned to Flamengo until 1999.

He played for Vasco da Gama again in 2000, winning the Mercosur Cup, the Brazilian League, the South American and Brazilian Footballer of the Year award. From 2002 until 2004 he played for Fluminense. On October 21, 2004 he was fired from the club after a conflict with the coach. He then went back to play for the team he started at, Vasco da Gama. In 2005, at nearly 40 years of age, Romário scored 22 goals in the Brazilian Championship, which made him the league's top goalscorer. On April 28, 2005, Romário played his last game with the Brazilian national team.

He scored the second goal in Brazil's 3-0 win against Guatemala. On January 28, 2006, one day before his fortieth birthday, he scored his 950th goal. Romário has the mark of 984 league goals as of September 20th, 2006, and his goal is to score 1000 official goals, a mark officially obtained only by former Brazilian attacker Pelé.

Romário is the third highest goalscorer in the history of the Brazilian team, as well as the second highest scorer of all time in the Brazilian League, finishing as the top scorer six times. He is catalogued as one of the greatest forwards in the history of the game by FIFA. And in my opinion he is the best soccer player that the world has seen.

CHICO BUARQUE

Francisco Buarque de Hollanda, our "Chico", is a Brazilian musician, composer and writer.

He became famous because of his music commenting the social, economic and cultural conditions in Brazil. Many songs from Chico talk about the dictatorship period.
In this time, he had a pseudonym to continue composing without being censored: Julinho da Adelaide. With this pseudonym, he composed just 3 songs.

He is also famous for his songs which talk about female matters. He talks about women in such beautiful way that it impressed everyone. Among these songs there are well known ones such as: "Olhos nos olhos", "Teresinha" and "Atrás da porta".

Chico wrote music for the poem "Morte e Vida Severina" for a scenic play in 1965. Since then, his presence in Brazilian theater has been constant. Buarque has a lot of music styles, but his "sambas" are more popular like "Vai passar", "Desalento" and "Deixa a menina". Presently, in 2006, a new cd is being released in the stores.

Got an idol?

Everyone’s got an idol, it can be a music idol, an artist, a football player and many other things. People usually have their lives based on an idol’s life, which can be good or bad depending on the idol. I wouldn’t say that people need idols, but it can make their lives better and more fun if they have one.

Geoff Rowley – The Best Skater ever.

Born in June 6, 1976 England, Rowley is one of the best skaters in the world in my opinion because of his careless, danger style.
He started skateboarding when he was about 14 and since then he has never stopped with his old school aggressive skateboarding. He got to the top of competitions, videos and even videogames with his appearance in all Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, but he has another hobby, which is hunting, he loves to do it and usually spends nine days on a hunting trip.

Geoff Rowley is not one of the most known skaters because he doesn’t like to be a “shown up” but it is a matter of fact that if somebody sees him skating, they will be thrilled with his skateboarding abilities.
You can see Geoff Rowley skating in some spots in Hunington Beach, CA or in the “Vans – Geoff Rowley video” or in “Flip Sorry” and “Flip Really Sorry”.

And what about you? Got an idol?

The story of Capital Inicial begins before their first formation, in 1982. Their members came from Blitz 64 and Aborto Elétrico- Brazilian bands that appeared in the 70’s and 80’s, which had punk influence, and disclosed the real Brazilian rock.

They played in the Federal capital streets, but the name didn’t come from Brasilia.
They didn’t have money enough to begin the band, they didn’t have the initial capital (in Portuguese: Capital Inicial).

In July of 1982, the guitarist Loro Jones, who played with Gutje – Plebe Rude- in Blitz 64, invited their brothers Fernando (drums) and Flávio Lemos (bass) to join Capital. Both played with Renato Russo in Aborto Elétrico. Heloísa, one friend of them, came to sing, but left the group in 1983. That happened when Dinho, a fan of Aborto Elétrico and former-friend of Dado Villa-Lobos and Marcelo Bonfá in the band "dado e o reino animal", joined the band.

After the band launched their fifth album, the keyboard player Bozzo Barreti left Capital, in 1992, and in the next year Dinho left the band too. It seemed that it would be the end, but Murilo Lima (ex- Rucula band) entered the band in the vocals.

After years, in 1998, Capital came back with their original formation: Dinho, Loro, Flávio and Fê, and they organized a celebration for the 15 years of the band and for the 20 years of the authentic and vigorous rock of Brasilia.

In 2001, tired of the excess of trips and some arguments about the routes of the band, the guitarist Loro Jones got out of the band. Loro was replaced by Fred Nascimento (Legiao Urbana).

Now, Capital Inicial is preparing their new album. That will be announced.

For me, Capital is the best band in the world, because their songs talk about everything, like: love, politics and a lot of subjects.

If you want to know more about Capital Inicial songs, buy their album: "Capital Inicial Acoustic", "Rosas e Vinho Tinto" and "Gigante".

Shakira - The Best Singer in the World

In my opinion, Shakira is the best singer in the world. She is considered the most acclaimed female solo singer nowadays: she has received the American Music Award in the category “Favourite Latin Artist” and the European Music Award in the category “Best Female Artist”. Since her first album “ Pies Descalzos”, which was launched in 1996, she has sold more than 30 million copies until her new album “Oral fixation Vol.2”.

Shakira has produced all her songs’ collection, has written all the lyrics and composed almost all the music. She has been very involved in the creation of all her albums, that contain the essence of her person and her vision about the present times, between a great mixture of musical influences , since rock until pop and from traditional Latin rhythms to electronic music.

The most important to Shakira, of being famous, is not making a lot of money, but to use her voice and musical ability to communicate and express her thoughts and feelings to the other people, as she said “ The best part of being an artist is that I get to be a communicator; I get to build bridges that bring me closer to people. I get to be a creator of my own environment. Just having the freedom of expressing myself and creating; is a beautiful thing.”

Being a person who has good feelings and thoughts of how to help the others that need our help, Shakira has founded the beneficial institution “ Pies Descalzos” (Bare Feet) , a organization that promotes the education and takes care of some of the basic needs of children that had to abandon their houses with their families because of Colombia’s violence. This foundation fights to reduce the number of children who are obligated to work in the streets, where they can easily enter prostitution, join war groups or enter in criminal life. Shakira has been nominated UNICEF’s emissary for the creation of “Pies Descalzos” and for her persistent work with the foundation. Being 28 years old, she is the UNICEF’s youngest ambassador .

As everybody can see, Shakira is a beautiful woman, a strongly emotional artist, an excellent singer and a very good person, who is worried about he future of Colombia’s children. In other words, Shakira is really great. Because of that I consider Shakira the best singer in all the world.

David Beckham – The story of an idol

David

There are plenty of footballers all over the world with money, success, fame and power. So, why should I consider David Beckham an idol? What does he have different from the others? Does he deserve all this fame and money that he has got?

The answer to all of these questions is that David Beckham is the only one who has a mix of beauty, pleasantness and talent that makes people admire him.

David playing

Becks, how he is called in Britain, was born on 2nd May 1975, in Leytonstone, a city near to London. Since he was a child, he has always loved playing football and dreamt to join a big team and become a professional. His parents didn’t have lots of money, as his father was a gas fitter’s mate and his mother a hairdresser. But they supported David in his dream and soon he started to show them they did the right thing.
David was the highlight of the little teams that he played for when he was a child, scoring dozens of goals, and everyone could see that he had a promising future.

When he was only fourteen, he finally saw his biggest dream becoming true: he joined the Manchester United, the football club he had always supported. A new phase was starting in David’s life and in some years he became very famous in England and in the sports world because of his sensational performance in the matches. But this was not enough to him. He still had the rest of the world to win.

In the next years, David became a very handsome man, won championships, received prizes and started playing in the English Team. In spite of all these professional achievements, David only became world known when he started dating Victoria Adams, member of the pop group Spice Girls. She was one of the most famous women in that moment and David, who saw her for the first time in a video on TV, fell in love as soon as they first met. Immediately, they became the media’s sensation couple and this fact only helped in David’s career.
They got married in July 1999, in a castle. By that time, not only UK talked about them, but all the rest of the world! In the same year, they had a baby, named Brooklyn, and, in 2002, the family grew again, with Romeo’s birth. David was England’s football captain and Victoria was singing in a solo-career. Everything seemed to be perfect in Beckham’s life, but in the following year a big change in his life was going to happen.

All the family together at the World Cup

He was not happy anymore with his manager in the Manchester United. Some people say that Ferguson, the manager, used to be very demanding with David, but others say that the player had become snobbish and wanted different treatment from the others. Nobody knows exactly what happened, but in 2003 he accepted to join Real Madrid’s Team. That meant that he would have to move to a completely different country: Spain.
In the first months, David’s life turned upside down. He and his family had to live in a hotel, he had to get used to Real Madrid and to the habits of that country. And, to make all that worse, the press accused him to be betraying Victoria with his assistant. This fact was never proved, but David became really upset and his football performance was damaged because of all those gossips about it.

After that, Beckham bought a house and moved definitively to Spain. One year later, he was a father again. Cruz was born in February 2005 and his name was inspired in a name of a David’s fan. Beckham, who is known to be a wonderful daddy, doesn’t deny that he still wants to have a daughter, as he has three boys. Recently, Victoria was announced to be pregnant again, but this was only gossip.

Beckham, very successful in personal and professional life, is one of the most wanted people to make advertisements. In fact, he is the footballer who earns the biggest amount of money from this activity. The reason for that? We already know. David gives us the image of perfection, which can sell any kind of product. You can ask yourself if David’s life is not too perfect to be true. And I say to you: perfect or not, Beckham’s life is quite interesting, isn’t it?
